Nicki Minaj has been slapped with a lawsuit by her former hair stylist, who alleges that Minaj swiped his wig designs for her own wig and fragrance lines.
In the suit, Terrence Davidson the ex stylist claims that he started working for Nicki Minaj in 2010, and came up with a number of her eye-catching wigs, including the pink upper bun wig she sported at a Video Music Awards pre-show, a fox fur-patterned wig and a wig that Minaj wore for the “Super Bass” video.
Their relationship was so good, that eventually there was talk of a wig line venture between Davidson and Minaj and a reality show featuring the pair.
However, the complaint alleges, beginning in 2012, Minaj and her agents began to give him the cold shoulder, and “became mum” about the business ventures.
Terrence claims he worked for Minaj from 2010 until 2013 and designed the wigs that contributed to her rise to stardom. He says the singer told him any business venture with the wigs would be carried out as a partnership. And now Nickki has her own wig line which she’s started selling without Terrence.
Legal documents filed at an Atlanta courthouse on Friday reveal that Davidson says his designs for the rapper were “fresh, unique and highly distinguishable.” He says some of the wigs he created became part of the artist’s iconic image, such as the ones seen in many of her music videos. And so he is filing a $30m suit.
I’m not sure what’s so unique about fringe style wigs, that he’s requesting a $30m settlement. Unless of course it’s the pink dye. In which case I recommend Nickki buy him a container full of pink dye and be done with it.
